Changing jobs can be an exciting time with new challenges and new colleagues waiting in the wings.
For a smooth transition, don’t forget the financial details you need to attend to.
Once a Member, Always a Member
If you leave the company that offered you MCU as a benefit, you don’t have to close your account with MCU. You can maintain your membership and accounts here as long as you wish.
Direct Deposit
When you change employers, ask your new payroll department if they offer direct deposit. Most companies do. To start direct deposit to your MCU accounts, simply give your new payroll department the following information:
- MCU Account Number
- Routing and Transit Number: 271986801
Relocating?
With MCU free Online Banking and nationwide ATM and shared-branching network, you can access your accounts at anytime from just about anywhere.
If you are moving, please don’t forget to change your current address on record with MCU, and if necessary order new checks. You may change your address within MCU Online Banking under the MCU Services tab or call 800-662-2772, ext. 2.
401k Rollover
The question of what to do with money in your retirement account from your current or previous employer is a necessary issue to address. You have several options. It’s important to understand not only the differences among these options, but also the tax implications of each. If you are not careful, Uncle Sam can take, in taxes and penalties, up to half your hard-earned retirement savings.
To help you sort out these options, contact our Investment Adviser Representative located at MCU. Appointments are complimentary.
Sudden Job Loss
Unfortunately, sometimes we lose a job unexpectedly due to downsizing, mergers or company relocations. Now is a time to manage your money responsibly. Create a budget to determine how long you can live off of your severance pay. Make sure you can pay critical bills like your mortgage and rent, and cut out unnecessary expenses like manicures or new clothes.
MCU has partnered with BALANCE to give members access to free financial counseling. If you feel your budget tightening beyond your control, BALANCE counselors are available to review your finances and help develop a debt management plan, including consolidating credit card payments, lowering payment amounts and even reducing or eliminating interest and fees.
